Naked Singularities, 2005
A contemporary art exhibition at Nix Gallery, Tribeca featuring six New York-based artists at various stages in their careers.
Curated by Shani K Parsons at the invitation of gallery owners Dionisio Cortes and Leticia Ortega, Naked Singularities received a review and listings in the New York Press and Time Out New York.
Booklet catalogue. For the exhibition identity, a "dot sample" was taken from the exact centre of one of each artist's paintings and used to represent them on the postcard, press release, and catalogue cover.
From the catalogue and press release:
Through deeply personal and visually persistent modes of artistic production, each artist’s work exerts its own strong gravitational pull while simultaneously resisting easy apprehension. Employing logical systems peculiar to conceptual realities of each artist’s own making, these paintings are passionate arguments for mutually exclusive Theories of Everything.

Opening spread of booklet catalogue
Each spread in the catalogue contained a statement or piece of writing by the featured artist, while the press release contained a brief description of each artist's work (examples below).
Charlie Ledbetter’s gripping onslaught of imagery brings us back to Earth, a place where rainbows take on sinister new meaning. Boldly layered iconographies are an immediate and emotional response to contemporary life and times.
Håvard Homstvedt’s inscrutable portraits are rigorous in their exploration of a single humanoid face– by turns haunting and tender, frightening and beautiful. The studied interplay of skin and surface texture elicits a strange and visceral response.
Minako Iwamura’s floating worlds are unabashedly beautiful skyscapes in which enigmatic and ancient shapes twist and billow. What is in fact the disembodied hair of Heian court ladies takes on its own figurative quality, lyrical and sensual, yet comical as well.
